.ar is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Argentina.

It is administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina. A foreigner may register a domain under ".ar" but then a legal domicile in Argentina must be provided. A single entity can register up to 200 domain names. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina proved the following services regarding a register domain name:

• Renew the domain.

• Unsubscribe the domain.

• Transferring ownership of the domain.

• Change the contact person of the domain.

• Modify the data associated with any organization.

• Unsubscribe entity if it is not associated with any domain.

All Argentine domains must be third-level-domains under: (there are some exceptions, all of them belonging to public and governmental

organizations:argentina.areduc.argobiernoelectronico.arnic.arpromocion.arretina.aruba.ar)

• ".com.ar" (general purpose) any person or entity may register foreign or argentinian.

• ".edu.ar" (educational entities)

• ".gob.ar" (government entities, homonym for .gov.ar)

• ".gov.ar" (government entities) entities belonging to the National or Provincial Government of the Republic of Argentina.

• ".int.ar" (international organizations) entities that are foreign/international and based in Argentina.

• ".mil.ar" (military forces) Entities within the Armed Forces of the Republic of Argentina

• ".net.ar" (locally based ISPs) Argentine and foreign entities that are providers of Internet services and are licensed by the National Communications Commission to provide value added services in Argentina.

• ".org.ar" (non-profit organizations) For nonprofit organizations in Argentina or abroad.

• ".tur.ar" (officially registered tourism agencies) Business travel and tourism companies that are empowered by the Ministry of Tourism's Office to operate as travel agents etc.

The maximum length of a ".ar" domain name is 19 characters, excluding the subdomain. Example: the number of characters in the domain my-dominio.com.ar is 10.

The characters allowed in a domain name are:

• lower case letters (including umlauts and accented vowels of Spanish and Portuguese);

• the numbers 0-9;

• the hyphen (-). However please note that two hyphens cannot follow each other and a domain name can not begin or end with a hyphen.
