.cu is the top level domain (ccTLD) for Cuba.

It is managed by CUBANIC who is responsible for all tasks regarding the .cu domain space. For instance they provide the registration service for all second-and third-level domains. CUBANIC provides its services through CENIAInternet, which is owned by CITMATEL (The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment).

Any national or foreign legal person may apply for a second-level domain under the domain space ".cu".

The following characters are allowed in a ".cu" domain name:

• The English alphabet (from the z),

• The Arabic digits (0 through 9)

• The hyphen "-". (Please note that domain names should not begin or end with the hyphen (-) and not contain two dashes (-) following each other);

• Domain names are not case-sensitive.

The following name regulations applies to a "cu" domain name:

• The minimum length for a second- or third-level subdomain are three (3) characters, but the recommended amount is five (5) characters;

• The maximum length allowed for a domain name under the ".cu" domain space is 63 characters, although for practical reasons is not recommended to use a name of such excessive length.

A ".cu" domain name is not a property, it is only an electronic record made in the name of a person, which represent the ownership of the domain name. This ownership must be renewed annually by paying the required fee.

If a domain name under. Cu is already registered, there is a possibility to register the same name under a generic second-level domain. If this is also recorded try searching for a variant including a dash. Currently anyone can register a name under the .cu domain space and never use it, of course this is subject to that the annual fee's are being paid. CUBANIC has divided the .cu domain into these third-levels domains:

.edu.cu Education and research.
