DK-Hostmaster runs the .dk registry

There are no restrictions on registering ".dk" domain names, but the name servers used with a ".dk" domain name need to be approved by DK-Hostmaster, the Danish registry.

They charge 500 Danish Krona plus VAT to test a name server, more information can be found by at DK-Hostmaster. You can use our BB Online name servers, which have been approved.

If approved and functioning name servers are not attached to the domain name, the domain name may be deleted by the Danish registry.

Name servers for the desired domain name must be both set up in advance, and also be approved by the Danish registry DK-Hostmaster.

When a domain name is registered, the Danish registry DK-Hostmaster will send an email to the registrant, who needs to follow the instructions in this email in order to activate the domain name.

The registrant has three months from the date of registration to activate a ".dk" domain name. If the registrant fails to activate the domain name, the name will be deleted by the Danish registry and will be made available for general registration again.

Danish domain names are registered directly under ".dk", and are available to anyone on a first come first served basis.

".dk" domain names can be registered on a 1,2,3 or 5 year basis.

".dk" is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Denmark.

The supervision of the ".dk" top-level domain, is handled exclusively by DK Hostmaster.

Any new ".dk" domain name has to be applied for via an approved registrar. Then the domain name applicant can ask the registrar to manage his domain name or do it directly with DK Hostmaster.

The 1st of July 2007, DK Hostmaster introduced a new suspension rule in the event of typo squatting. Typo squatting refers to when domain names gets registered with systematical precision in order for people to end up at the wrong domain. Say if a letter or two are changed in a very familiar already existing domain name.

As an example if a "typosquatter" would register BB-onlime.co.uk and consumers who accidentally mistype the domain name will be directed to another website than that of BB-online.co.uk. In this way, the typo squatter makes a living since they earn money when customers accidentally type in the wrong domains names.
