.dm is the country code top-level domain for Dominica.
It is operated by the DotDM Corporation and sponsored by the University of Puerto Rico.
The top-level domain .dm was introduced to the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica by the Domini Corporation in 1997, when there was an increasing demand for domain names with the rapid development of Internet technology. The DotDM Corporation was then established with the aim to manage Dominica's intellectual property to benefit the nation on an economic and social level.
It was felt that the .dm domain name would be welcomed by the global internet community, especially since it was supported by strategic promotional efforts directed at clearly identified niche markets. Showcasing the many offerings of the Commonwealth of Dominica including International Business, Digital Communications and Travel and Tourism resources, the .dm name would embrace such diverse markets as North, South and Central America along with Europe.
On Feburary 2nd, 2001, a Domain Names Services Agreement was signed between the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and The DotDM Corporation. This 10-year agreement to market the .dm Internet Registry worldwide was signed between the Minister for Communication and Works, Reginald Austrie, on behalf of the Government and Chief Executive Officer of The DotDM Corporation Jennifer Aird-Joseph.
Efforts of The DotDM Corporation through the .dm Registry are expected to increase worldwide awareness of the Commonwealth of Dominica as a sovereign nation offering economic opportunities, tourist resources and natural splendor.
Registrants of a second-level .dm domain get the corresponding third-level names within .com.dm, .net.dm, and .org.dm automatically included. There are no restrictions on who can register these names, but they are not very heavily used.
