The Faroe Islands have the ccTLD ".fo" and this is restricted to individuals and companies that are registered in the Faroe Islands.
If you are a foreigner to the Faroe Islands, the registry state that you can only register a domain name if it matches a brand name, trademark or service mark that is registered in the Danish Patent and Trademark Office.
If you want to register a domain name that is similar to, refers to or alludes to a brand name registered in Denmark / Faroe Islands (in the name of another) which you do not have a legal right to, you must prove you have permission to do so from the legal holder.
Domains registered under .fo must be between 4 and 63 characters, including the extension .fo.
The registry reserve the right to refuse applications that are indecent, inconsistent with the general regulations govering the Internet, or abusive, threatening or derisive.
Domain names which match any existing gTLD's are reserved, as are domain names which match any two letter country codes. This also applies to geographic place names in the Faroe Islands. Domain names which match names which have special meaning or significance with regard to the internet: nic.fo, web.fo, co.fo, flp.fo, www.fo, telenet.fo, irc.fo, internet.fo and mail.fo are forbidden, this list is not conclusive.
.fo registrations are divided into two catagories, group A and group B. Group A domain names require supporting documentation, these include domain names which match trademarks, service marks, brand names or patents, the names of Govermental offices and agencies and public organisations in the Faroe Islands. Business names, ship names, personal names are also classed as "group A" and require supporting documentation.

If several applications for the same personal name exist, the registry have a system for such eventualities.the personal name of the applicant by the National Resident Register in such manner as both forename(s) and last name are written out or in such a manner that either the forename or the last name is abbreviated. The applicant may register as well his or her birth date using either numbers, letters or a combination of both.
Group B domain name do not require supporting documentation, applications are advertised on a list and if there are no objections within twenty working days, the registration process begins. This list is published in a the Faroese newspapers.
