.lu is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Luxembourg
".lu" domains are are administered by Restena.
The responsibility for the management of the national top level domain ".lu" was delegated to RESTENA Foundation by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) in 1992. On September 18th RESTENA Foundation introduced its registry-registrar model for the registration and management of ".lu". domain names. The registration of domain names has been enlarged by the introduction of a network of approved registration registrars. It should be noted that in order to register a domain name under ".lu" a local contact needs to be appointed. RESTENA Foundation,the national network for education and research of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is responsible for the management of the Domain Name Service for the Luxembourg national top level domain ".lu" (ISO country code for Luxembourg).
The fees for a ".lu" second level domain are of 40 euros for the creation (or modification of a contact) and 40 euros yearly (incl. VAT) and in order to trade a second level domain name under the ".lu" domain, the new registrant must complete a "domain name trade request form" and a updated application form and then send them to RESTENA DNS-LU by either fax or post. These following forms can be downloaded in PDF form from http://www.dns.lu/.
After RESTENA DNS-LU have received the forms they will initiate the trade procedure by sending an email for approval of the trade request to the administrative contact of the present holder. It is very important to notice that this request has to be approved within 15 days otherwise the delay will cause the request to be rejected.
Below we show two illustration regarding statistics over the ".lu" domain names. The first illustration shows the total amount of registerd domain names under ".lu" year by year and the second illustration shows the statistics for every month during 2009.
